Iki is a strategy game set in Japan during the Edo period (1603-1868). Edo was the name given to Tokyo during this period. The city's liveliest market was located in the Nihonbashi district. Along the main street, various vendors engaged in various activities set up their stalls and invited customers to do business. Near the main street, living in houses called nagayas, artisans and merchants with various skills seek to support the common people of Edo: greengrocers, woodcut artists, street vendors, tempura sellers, geisha, and more.

Live a full year in Edo and strive to be the best Edokko, the son of Edo, by contributing to the well-being and prosperity of Edo and its citizens. Hire characters with various skills and have them work on Nihonbashi's main street. The winner is the one with the most IKI, a philosophical concept from the Edo period that represents the ideal path to living a civic life.
